Why Am I a Babysitter???

As managers we all had that moment where we think “I feel like a babysitter” or “why can’t the staff do their jobs”….

Want to know why we have to ‘babysit’? The answer lies in a 2013 Gallup report (State of the America Workplace) where “70% percent of workers claimed to be either actively disengaged (20 percent) or merely disengaged (50 percent). That’s huge.

So 70% percent of your workforce is disengaged at some level which is why we feel like babysitters. And if we have staff turnover (for whatever reason) the loss of revenue and production continues to decrease.

How much more productive and profitable would the business be if we could re engage the workforce?? The numbers are staggering.

“I’m the boss do what I say”
How do we correct this problem? The answer is simple – it lies in how we manage our people and culture. As managers we do not believe we should change our management style for the various behavior types we manage.

However that’s not the way it works. To use the old adage you are jamming a square peg in a round hole when using that method. Or as I like to tell customers; you are losing money.

“Helloo….time to wake up”
The first step in reengaging the workforce is to understand the behaviors of the various individuals on your team. By that I mean – are they more controlling, are they extroverted, do they tend to like rules or are they more of free wheeler type, do they need lots of explanation, or do they need to minimum direction and let them go. Are they high energy or low?

We need to make sure we are communicating and motivating properly.

Imagine if you reengage only 20% of the 70% not engaged? Productivity would skyrocket, revenue would explode. Not to mention morale would improve.

Let us help you with this first step. We can analyze the behaviors and provide coaching to the employees and managers. Let us show you how to reengage your staff and get your most important asset working at capacity again.

Call today for a no cost consultation to discuss how we can reengage your workforce.
