Build a work environment that cultivates inclusion

There is a lot of buzz around company culture and the value it offers especially as we are navigating Covid restrictions.

This focus on mental health and work environment is a wonderful awareness to building communities and employee loyalty for an organization’s continuing growth.

Going even deeper and developing a “learning culture” to the company directly impacts the bottom line.

What is a learning culture, really?

A learning culture is where people can take risks without fear of retaliation or judgment.

When we create an environment where people are more willing to acknowledge their mistakes and figure out ways to prevent them in the future, we shift the impact time it takes to unwind challenges.

Having a learning culture, we also develop healthier conversations that make it possible for others to feel more comfortable to raise concerns and expand innovative solutions.

In the past openness and inclusion was thought to be the best way to cultivate a learning environment but overtime it can be hard to nurture.

Some behavior styles may feel to exposed and others may feel hopeless if unable to implement the change.

By creating a humble and curious environment we evolve to a more experimental exchange. Including the power of sharing from management down to help build this trust sets the tone of expectation.

The humble and curious approach helps others to speak up and engage.

No one really likes to feel left out but most struggle with vulnerability.

Discovering behavior styles can help others explore how to be safe when contributing during these interactions.

Once we understand each other’s behaviors, or backup styles, we can create space for others to show up in their resistance and learn from it.
